by JC on September 14, 2009

In case you forgot the rules of the polls, click here for the refresher. You’ll notice that this week, the polls are divided into Division I and Division II. Remember that these polls are based off of performance-driven data, not any regional bias or favoritism.

And as usual, feel free to compare how the HBCU Sports Blog Black College Football Poll stacks up against the likes of the Sheridan Broadcast Network and HSRN.com polls.

Division I

1. S.C. State – 35 Points After finishing with 15 points in last week’s poll, the Bulldogs jump to the Division I top spot after an impressive double-digit road victory over Bethune-Cookman.

2. Southern – 35 Points - Shoots to the top three of the poll after a 68-0 drubbing of Division II opponent Central State. Misses the top spot by virtue of having one loss on the season.

3. Alabama A&M – 30 Points - The Bulldogs get the third spot with an impressive out-of-conference home win against Hampton.

4. Florida A&M – 30 Points – The Rattlers hold in the top five spot with a road win over Division II-bound Winston-Salem State.

10. Prairie View A&M – 5 Points - A heart-breaking road loss to New Mexico drops the Panthers out of the top five D-I schools this week.

Division II

1. Shaw – 50 Points – The undefeated Bears continue to rack up points and respect in the poll rankings.

2. Albany State – 45 Points - The Golden Rams crushed Stillman on the road to shorten the gap between themselves and the Shaw Bears in Week 3.

3. Clark-Atlanta – 30 Points - The Panthers’ 3-0 start and 33-0 mauling of Lane College has them in the top three.

4. Elizabeth City State – 30 Points - Save for the season-opening loss to Shaw, the Vikings are showing signs of an high-octane offense just hitting its stride.

5. Virginia Union – 20 Points – An out-of-conference loss drops the Panthers slightly in this week’s poll.

6. Benedict – 10 Points - Two straight wins have gotten the Tigers into this week’s top ten.
